Voyager 2 launched on August 20, 1977, two weeks before Voyager 1, and is the only probe that has visited all four giant planets: Jupiter (1979), Saturn (1981), Uranus (January 1986) and Neptune (August 1989). Every close-up image of Uranus and Neptune still comes from it. On November 5, 2018 it left the heliosphere and has been in interstellar space ever since, the second probe after Voyager 1. Unlike Voyager 1 it heads south, far below the plane of the planetary orbits, and like its sister carries a 'Golden Record' with sounds, music and greetings from Earth. A radio signal now needs about 20 hours one way. The position shown here follows the real orbital data from NASA/JPL (Horizons) and changes with the chosen date.
